BJP asks Sourav Ganguly to contest 2014 general elections

Former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly could be contesting the general elections next year after several reports suggesting that Indian political party Bhartiya Janata Party(BJP) has offered him a ticket for the elections in 2014. However, Ganguly is still undecided on whether to accept the offer.

“Yes, I’ve an offer. But I’m still undecided on what to do. I’ve been busy for last few days… I’ll let you know soon,” Ganguly was quoted as saying in a leading Bengali daily.

Reports also suggest that BJP’s prime-ministerial candidate Narendra Modi has promised Ganguly to make him the sports minister in the Cabinet, provided his party comes to power. The offer for the BJP ticket is said to have come from Narendra Modi himself.

Sourav Ganguly played 113 Tests for India and captained the team in the 49 Tests . He also played in 311 ODI matches and captained the side in 146 matches.
