Suspended Australian cricketer David Warner has reportedly injured his elbow while playing for the Sylhet Sixers in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League. The BPL franchise is yet to confirm the seriousness of the injury but Cricket Australia has revealed that the left-handed opener will return to Australia on Monday to be assessed.

The Background

The suspended Aussie cricketers, Steve Smith and David Warner have been playing in the T20 leagues all over the world. Playing in the Bangladesh Premier League, Steve Smith, who was the captain of the Comilla Victorians had earlier injured his elbow and was ruled out for 6 weeks. His country-mate David Warner was the captain of the Sylhet Sixers this season.

Warner played a magnificent innings of 61 runs against the Rangpur Riders but injured his elbow during the innings.

The Heart of the Matter

In the middle of a Bangladesh Premier League match, David Warner had turned right-handed and smashed Chris Gayle's deliveries outside the boundary line. It is being believed that this was the reason why David Warner injured his elbow and now is expected to undergo surgery as well.

A CA spokesperson said, “David has reported some pain in his right elbow. He will return to Australia on Monday 21 January to be assessed, but is expected to play in remaining BPL matches until his return."

“We will have a clearer understanding of the extent of the injury once he has been assessed.” he added.

This news comes just 5 days after Steve Smith got injured playing in the Bangladesh Premier League, and the injuries can hamper both the players' preparation for their upcoming international return.

The ban on Warner and Smith will end on March 29.
