BPL Day 5 Round up: Shakib helps Riders to a thrilling win; Mustafizur's three wickets guide Dynamites to the victory

Shakib Al Hasan produced a captain’s performance

In the ninth match of Bangladesh Premier League, Rangpur Riders trumped Sylhet Super Stars by 6 runs in a low scoring match.

Riders’ captain, Shakib-al-Hasan won the toss and opted to bat first. The openers Lendl Simmons and Soumya Sarkar managed only 19 runs together as the latter fell in the third over.

Simmons followed him a couple of overs later. The skipper Shakib held the innings together and scored 33 runs, though, at a reasonably slow pace. He was the highest scorer for his team and Thisara Perera was the second highest scorer with 21 runs.

The team managed a total of 109 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in 20 overs. Mohammad Shahid being the pick of the bowlers with a figure of 4-1-12-4.

Super Stars’ innings started even badly as Josh Cobb went for a golden duck in the first over. Munaweera was the next to depart in the 4th over with a total of 31 runs on the board only.

Mominul Haque who walked in at number three was the highest scorer for the team with 29 runs, but he lost his wicket at a time when his partnership with Mushfiqur Rahim was taking the team towards victory.

The rest of the team fell like a pack of cards as they were bundled for 103 runs by the last over with Rahim being the unbeaten batsman with 25 runs. Shakib picked three wickets and was named the Man-of-the-Match.รข??

Mustafizur bagged three wickets

In the other match of the day, Dhaka Dynamites overcame Chittagong Vikings in another low scoring affair.

Tamim Iqbal won the toss and chose to bat first. The Vikings did not start well as they lost their captain in the second over itself. When Tillakaratne Dilshan was ousted by Hossain in the eighth over, the score was 41 for 4.

Naeem Islam showed some resistance as he scored 29 runs and remained unbeaten, however, none of his teammates performed well and Vikings fell for mere 92 runs by the 19th over. Mustafizur and Nasir Hossain picked three wickets each.

The Dynamites never looked out of the contest as the opening pair of Shykat Ali and Shadman Islam scored 45 runs for the first wicket. Nasir Jamshed was the next to fall but with 78 runs already on the board by then, the team from Dhaka cruised on to seal the match and won it by 6 wickets.

Naeem picked three of the four wickets which fell.

Brief score: Chittagong Vikings 92 all-out lost to Dhaka Dynamites 96 for 4.
