Brett Lee is an inspiration to us, says Warriors’ Srinaath

Ruby Kanchi Warriors’ Akkil Srinaath addressed the media after his team’s three-wicket loss to Karaikudi Kaalai in their India Cements TN Premier League game at the India Cements Ground, Tirunelveli, on Wednesday. 

 

On his form

Yes. I am happy with my form. I managed to score some runs and also clear the boundaries.

 

On the loss

Yes. We should have won this game, but overall it was a decent tournament for us. We had the game in hand when they were 13 for 5, but we threw it away. I am disappointed for the team despite my personal efforts.

 

On areas that need improvement

Everything. We were poor in the power-play and lost wickets in pairs. We also failed to build partnerships and our bowling was inconsistent. Poor bowling and fielding cost us the game.

 

On those five quick wickets at the onset

We thought we would get them out for 80, but we threw away the game from that stage. We hoped to go out on a winning note, but it didn’t happen.

 

On the team’s batting

Batting potential is there, but the young guys need to score runs consistently. The skills are definitely there.  Players have failed to click as a team and that was the main reason for our earlier losses.

 

On N Subramanium

He is good as an opener, he keeps wickets well. Even Varun Kumar is a live-wire. These two players are the positives for us.

 

On Brett Lee

He was an inspiration as he has played everywhere in the world. Our fast bowlers and batsmen learnt a lot from him.

 

On the message of this tournament

It was a great opportunity for the youngsters as they featured on live TV. It was an amazing experience. Scouts can pick up some of these guys for the IPL.

 

On the wicket

It was dry and slow. The ball was not coming on to the bat. It was not easy to bat on. 120 was the par-score, but we threw away the game in the end.

 

On B Indrajith’s captaincy

He has done well. He has been skipper since his Under-13 days. He also has the experience of skippering in the Ranji Trophy. His form and captaincy are not related.
