Brisbane Heat sign Yasir Shah for the upcoming Big Bash League season

What’s the story?

Brisbane Heat have signed ace Pakistan leg-spinner Yasir Shah for the upcoming season of the Big Bash league.

"Having Yasir agree to join us as a replacement player means that we can plan for the series with some certainty,'' head coach Daniel Vettori said on Wednesday (November 15) following the signing.

The details

Heats have already secured the services of former New Zealand skipper Brendon McCullum along with young Pakistan leg-spinner in Shadab Khan. However, Yasir has been drafted in since Shadab might not be available for the entire competition owing to International commitments and this where a like-for-like replacement comes in the form of Yasir.

As of now, Yasir will not be a part of the 18-member squad as according to the rules in the BBL only two overseas players can be present in the squad at any time. However, he will be allowed to train with the squad for this duration.

Although Yasir has been replaced by Shadab in Pakistan's limited overs setup, there is little doubt over the potential the 31-year old brings to the table.

In 74 T20 matches, Yasir has picked up 60 wickets and has been quite frugal in the bargain as he has only conceded runs at an economy rate of 6.72, which is respectable by all means.

What’s next?

Brisbane Heat will play the first game of their season against the Melbourne Stars on December 20 at the Gabba. They would want to replicate their performances from the last season where they were one of the most exciting teams to take the field.

Although Yasir has not been in the reckoning for Pakistan in the limited overs format, this opportunity could be an ideal stage for him to bounce back into contention with some solid performances for the Heats.

Under the tutelage of Vettori, Yasir can learn few more tricks which will only hold him in good stead in his career.
