A 22-year-old sets world record by batting for 26 hours

Alby Shale, a 22-year-old Oxfordshire student, has set a world record by batting for 26 hours at The Oval stadium in England.

Starting his batting on Monday (July 15) at 6.45 AM British time (5.45 GMT), he played out 6,000 deliveries, before getting bowled out at 8.45 AM on July 16 (Tuesday).

The “Evening Standard” newspaper in England reported: “It took 15 hours and seven minutes of continual play before Shale, an accomplished cricketer, was clean bowled for the first time.”

Among several celebrities and cricketers, who bowled at him, include British Prime Minister David Cameron, England cricketers Ravi Bopara, Paul Allott, Australia’s Tom Moody and South Africa’s Steve Elworthy.

News agency “AFP” said: “The rules set down by Guinness World Records allowed only a five-minute break for every full hour completed – to refuel and go to the toilet.

“The attempt was in aid of the Rwanda Cricket Stadium Foundation – a charity set up to build the first proper cricket ground in the African country.

“The previous batting record of 25 hours was set in October by Australian batsman Jade Child.”
