CAB plans a flowery farewell for Tendulkar
Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar for many, who were born in the 90’s, is the last string that reminds them of their childhood. As the batting maestro prepares for his on-field international farewell against West Indies, the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) is leaving no stone unturned to make sure that the little master gets a befitting farewell when he takes ground for his 199th test match at what is considered to be the Mecca of Cricket in India.
As per reports published by a leading news channel in India, the administrators at the CAB have planned to shower 199kg of rose petal on Tendulkar when he bats in the second innings of the Test. The guest list for the match will include the likes of Sir Vivan Richards and Shane Warne, the news channel said. One could also see 199 lanterns floating in the air on day three of the match.
While the CAB has busied itself for an opulent farewell to Tendulkar, the 22-yard cricket pitch at Eden Gardens has somewhat been abandoned by the authorities. Perhaps this should explain the reason why the CAB sought special permission from the BCCI to host Bengal-Baroda Ranji Trophy game at Eden Gardens, even though the ICC rule states that the venue for an international game cannot be used for a domestic match two weeks prior to the fixture.
One person who has been disappointed by this move is none other than the one who is at the helm of affairs at Eden gardens. The curator, Prabir Mukherjee was quoted saying that he cannot risk wear and tear on the surface by playing a first-class game on it so close to the Test.
With less than a week to go for the game and so much happening at the Eden Gardens, one could be guaranteed that the farewell will remain an eventful one.
