Carlos Brathwaite - Do you remember the name?

It was on 3rd April 2016 when West Indies needed 19 off 6 balls to win the WT20 2016 against England. Carlos Brathwaite, who was on 10 off 6 balls, was facing Ben Stokes, who had conceded 17 off his 2 overs.

Everyone was backing England to win this with ease. But Brathwaite had other plans. He went 6-6-6-6 to create an epic heist and rob England of their 2nd T20 title. It was then that Ian Bishop screamed on air, "Carlos Brathwaite, remember the name!"

Three years down the line, "Carlos Braithwaite, remember the name!" has changed to "Carlos Braithwaite, remember the name?" The assertive exclamation has got replaced by a question mark. The question is - why has that happened? If you look at Brathwaite's career, you'd realize there has been nothing of significance before or after that knock.

Here's a look at his career statistics:

ODI career in numbers:

Matches - 37, Runs - 419, Average - 14.44, Strike Rate - 85.33 Wickets - 34, Average - 43.17, Economy - 5.52

T20 career in numbers:

Matches - 38, Runs - 291, Average - 15.31, Strike Rate - 119.75 Wickets - 31, Average - 30.77, Economy - 8.51

Test career in numbers:

Matches - 3, Runs - 181, Average - 45.25, Strike Rate - 63.73 Wickets - 1, Average - 242, Economy - 3.55

Brathwaite is currently the T20 captain of West Indies, but many will question whether he has done anything to deserve that post. He is a good batsman technically, but coming very low down the order hasn't helped his cause. Perhaps a promotion up the order might result in more responsibility, under which he could thrive.

We have seen how the big burly lad can strike the ball at the back end, but imagine a well set Brathwaite smashing it. Could that make a difference between a few quick 20-odd knocks and some meaningful 50s?

Brathwaite's bowling hasn't been much to write home about either. He is neither a strike bowler nor a containing one, and his record reflects that kind of no-man's-land element.

Brathwaite is already 30, and it remains to be seen if he can regain his lost identity. At the same time, the lack of quality all-rounders in the West Indies' setup means he will keep getting chances to prove his worth. Will he make the most of them?
