Carlos Brathwaite lavishes praise on Indian batting lineup

Brathwaite revealed that the Windies batsmen are focused on tackling spinners

After capturing the attention of cricket fans during the World T20 in India, West Indies all-rounder Carlos Brathwaite has heaped praise on Virat Kohli’s side. Speaking to windiescricket.com during a preparatory camp at the 3Ws Oval in UWI Cave Hill Campus, the 27-year old heaped praise on the Indian batting lineup.

With the 4-Test series set to begin at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua from 21st onwards, the West Indies team have been working hard to get into rhythm. Understandably, negotiating spin is among the top priorities for the hosts.

Brathwaite enthused, “India attack with spin while the Aussies attack with pace and it’s about us now being a little more patient. Spin has supposedly been our downfall for the last couple series or years and I think we’ve gotten better. The coach (Phil Simmons) has done a very good job getting some of the batters in off-season and focusing on playing spin really well.”

He added, “It’s just a matter of us having a few options to each delivery, being patient and ultimately, playing the waiting game. I think whoever plays the patient game better will come out on top in the series.”

West Indies’ previous Test series came in Australia where they were thoroughly outplayed by the home team. On the other hand, India have been in excellent form with five victories from their last six matches in the sport’s traditional format.

Acknowledging the challenge posed by Inda’s batsmen, Brathwaite felt, “Their’s is undoubtedly one of the stronger batting line-ups in the world, home and away, and unfortunately or fortunately for us it a lot similar to India in the Caribbean.”

The seam bowler quipped, “It’s about us being patient as a team, patient as a bowling unit and as individuals not getting frustrating but realizing that we’re up against one of the better batting units and you have to do what you would in first-class cricket over a long period of time.”

It has been 14 years since West Indies won a Test match against India and they would hope that their woeful run finally comes to an end.
