IPL 2018: A chat with Delhi Daredevils' Daniel Christian
Daniel Christian rose to prominence due to his heroics in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Dan's first appearance in the IPL was back in 2011 when he was procured by the Deccan Chargers for USD 900,000. He played three consecutive editions of the IPL which earned him an Australian call up but due to his poor form, he was overlooked after 2013.
Some wonderful performances for the Hobart Hurricanes and the Brisbane Heat in the Big Bash League (BBL) helped the all-rounder earn another IPL contract, joining the Rising Pune Supergiant for the 2017 edition of the tournament. He was picked up by Delhi Daredevils for the 2018 edition and will look to help them lift the trophy for the first time.
Sportskeeda caught up with the all-rounder ahead of the commencement of IPL 2018. Here are a few excerpts from the interview:
Q. You played with MS Dhoni in the previous edition of the IPL and you will play with Gautam Gambhir in this edition. Two completely contrasting personalities. Are you looking forward to playing under a skipper like Gambhir?
Christian: It was nice playing with MS Dhoni in the Rising Pune Supergiant. I have played against Gambhir in the past in international cricket and even in the Indian Premier League, it's nice to be playing with two legends of the game.
Q. What is your target for the next few years in international cricket?
Christian: I would love to get back into the Australian team. If I do well in the IPL, you never know.
Q. So you are looking at the IPL as a platform to get back to international cricket?
Christian: Definitely! Every time I play I try to do as well as I can.
Q. You've been to India before. Are you looking forward to getting to know the culture of Delhi?
Christian: I've been here last year but only for a match (one match). So I am definitely looking forward to the culture of Delhi.
Christian may get a chance in the first game in the absence of his Australian counterpart Glenn Maxwell who will be away attending Aaron Finch's marriage.
