Chepauk Super Gillies batsman speaks about his match-winning knock

Man of the match Vasanth Saravanan addressed the media after his match winning knock of 50 not out for the Chepauk Super Gillies against the Ruby Kanchi Warriors in the India Cements TN Premier League.

Were you happy to bowl first on this wicket?

Vasanth Sarvanan (VS): Not exactly. Each and every decision we take, it’s a collective decision from our team. We had plans for both. In this limited format I think it’s better to chase the score as it was raining also and we couldn’t predict the climate. Since they might reduce the overs — it was better to chase.

Despite the loss of early wickets you batted well. What was going through your mind?

VS: Our team (Chepauk Super Gillies) has a good batting line up. We have batting till number eight, not just batsmen but good hitters who can clear the ground. So there was no need to panic, we just needed to take the game till the end and we could win the match.

Does playing in two leagues (Thiruvallur and Chennai) help you?

VS: Definitely. The only district where a lot of competitive cricket is played is our Thiruvallur district. We play on matting wickets which is gradually coming down. I think a lot of youngsters should still play on matting wickets (as) it helps them play good competitive cricket.

Do you think you can make a break through?

VS: I keep scoring runs, I keep performing. You must have watched my career from my childhood. I think I have done quite well in my career and just give my hundred per cent in everything. I don’t regret anything.

How much of an impact does Hemang Badani have on the team?

VS: Hemang is a very experienced cricketer, he has played for India. He has his own game plans which we have to just execute on the ground. The plan is a collective decision made by the team.
