Chris Gayle believes MS Dhoni still has the potential to take India to greater heights
Chris Gayle believes that Indian limited overs captain MS Dhoni still has the potential to take India to greater heights. Wading into the unending debate over whether Dhoni should step aside from India’s captaincy Gayle said that only Dhoni can take a call on that if he desires to do so.
There has been calls for Dhoni to hand over the reigns to Kohli even in the limited overs format courtesyKohli’s terrific start as a Test captain winning Test series in Sri Lanka and West Indies and beating the Proteas 3-0 at home. The destructive batsman, however, felt that Dhoni is still one of the best captains around and has the ability to still win many more laurels for his country.
“MS Dhoni will only step aside when he feels like, no one can tell him to leave,” Gayle told ANI in an exclusive interview.
Dhoni has been an inspirational captain for Team India over the years but in the recent years his performances have dipped significantly and he is not the same match finisher he used to be a couple of years ago. Even his captaincy record in the recent past hasn’t been satisfactory and he has failed to finish off matches from winning positions.
