Chris Gayle wants Rohit Sharma to score triple century in Tests
Flamboyant West Indies opener Chris Gayle recently posted a photo on his Instagram handle indicating his intentions that he wants the Indian batsman Rohit Sharma to score a triple century in Tests. Gayle posted a picture with Rohit Sharman and Virender Sehwag. Needless to say, the picture was an overdose of runs.
All the three batsmen in the frame have scored double centuries in ODIs. The dashing Jamaican was well aware of the fact and mentioned it was the double century club in ODIs. He followed it up by saying that a triple century from Rohit Sharma in Tests would make this a triple century club too. The Nawab and Najafgarh and the big Jamaican have both scored triple centuries in Tests but Rohit Sharma is yet to achieve the coveted milestone.

Along with the picture, Gayle added a captain, “The double century club in ODI. @rohitsharma45 just need a triple in test and it would be the Triple Century Club. Great to be among the legend Virender Sehwag. #Champions.”
Gayle and Sehwag both has the unique distinction of scoring two Triple centuries. While Sehwag scored his triple centuries against Pakistan-309 at Multan and South Africa- 319 at Chennai, Gayle scored it against South Africa-317 at Antigua and Sri Lanka-333 at Galle. Rohit Sharma would definitely want to join this elite club and the words from Chris Gayle would come true if that happens. It would indeed be a triple century club. Given his swashbuckling approach in the limited overs format, it won’t be a surprise if Sharma achieves this unique feat and joins the special club.

In ODIs all the three batsmen have scored double centuries. It was Virender Sehwag who scored the first double century among the trio breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s record for the highest individual score in ODIs in 2011. Rohit Sharma was not far behind and joined the elite club by notching up his maiden ODI double century against Australia in 2013. A year later Sharma followed it up with a breathtaking 264 against Sri Lanka in Kolkata and became the only batsman to hit two double centuries in ODIs. It remains the highest individual score in ODIs.
In the 2015 World Cup, Chris Gayle became the first non-Indian to hit an ODI double century. The minnows from Africa, Zimbabwe was at the receiving end as Gayle became the first batsman to score a double-century in a World Cup match.
