CLT20 2014: Kings XI Punjab v Cape Cobras - Glenn Maxwell apologises for his angry reaction to dismissal

Glenn Maxwell

Kings XI Punjab batsman Glenn Maxwell has apologised for his reactions to getting out bowled by off-spinner Sybrand Engelbrecht in a Champions League Twenty20 Group B encounter against Cape Cobras at Mohali on September 28. The Australian, on his way back, smashed a trash can with the bat, venting out his frustrations after yet another failure on a cricketing field.

Apologising for his behaviour, Maxwell tweeted:

Trying to cut a ball that came in, Maxwell, who scored 23 off 19, found his stumps rattled. The 25-year-old hasn’t been at his best form ever since his weaknesses against leg-spin were ruthlessly exposed towards the closing stages of the 7th season of the Indian Premier League. And it is apparently affecting his batting on the whole now.

While he started the tournament on a promising note, scoring 43 off 25 against Hobart Hurricanes, his last three performances – 16, 7 and 23 – and, more so, his mode of dismissals have shown that he hasn’t yet overcome his issues.

The George Bailey-led side have won all their four matches and will be facing either Lahore Lions or Chennai Super Kings in the semi-finals of the event at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Uppal, Hyderabad.
