CLT20 2014: Suryakumar Yadav reported for suspected illegal action

Suryakumar Yadav (L)

Kolkata Knight Riders off-spinner Suryakumar Yadav has been reported for a suspected illegal action following the Champions League Twenty20 (CLT20) final loss against Chennai Super Kings at M Chinnaswamy stadium, Bangalore, on Saturday.

Suryakumar, primarily a batsman, was asked to bowl by captain Gautam Gambhir, as the Knight Riders’ frontline bowlers proved to be ineffective while defending the 181-run target they had set. The 24-year-old, surprisingly, ended up as the side’s joint-best bowler economy wise, conceding only 21 runs in his 3 overs.

The Mumbai-born becomes the fifth bowler, all of them being off-spinners, to be reported during the tournament; Prenelan Subrayen (Dolphins), Adnan Rasool and Mohammad Hafeez (Lahore Lions) and Sunil Narine (Kolkata Knight Riders) were the first four bowlers to be reported. Of the four, Narine was reported twice and hence had to be suspended from bowling in the tournament, leading to him miss the final, which the Knight Riders lost by 8 wickets.

Suryakumar will be banned from bowling if he is reported again, after which he has to request the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Suspect Bowling Action Committee to get his action cleared.
