Corey Anderson joins Somerset for Natwest T20 BlastÂ
What's the story?
New Zealand all-rounder Corey Anderson joins Somerset for the upcoming Natwest T20 Blast, which is England's domestic T20 tournament.
Speaking to the Somerset official website, Anderson said that he was delighted to be a part of the squad once again.
"I'm delighted to be heading to Somerset for the 2018 NatWest T20 Blast. Having been unable to fulfill a contract at Somerset a few years ago due to injury, I'm excited to finally get the opportunity to play for such a distinguished club. Somerset have a strong squad that are looking to challenge on all fronts this season and I hope I can play my part as we push for the T20 title," he said.
In case you didn't know...
Anderson was a part of Somerset's squad in 2017 as well. He made a big impact as he scored 142 runs in seven innings at an average of 71 with one half-century to his name.
However, his season was cut short as he suffered a stress fracture, similar to one he had suffered in 2015.
The details:
Somerset Cricket's director Matt Maynard was delighted with the news of signing the hard-hitting all-rounder.
"It was a shame that he couldn't play for us a few years ago but I have no doubt that he will show the supporters that it was worth the wait," Maynard said.
"To be able to add a player of his calibre to the squad is great news for us. He's an exciting player and a very talented cricketer who strikes the ball exceptionally well," he concluded.
What's next?
The Natwest T20 Blast will begin in July in England and go on until September.
Author's take:
Anderson's inclusion in Somerset's squad is a big boost to the side. He has suffered a lot of setbacks in his career due to constant injuries and will hope to remain injury free throughout the tournament.
If he does so, he could play a huge role in their success and help Somerset go all the way.
