Corey Anderson set to miss initial stages of IPL due to injury in World T20
Corey Anderson is in danger of missing the initial stages of IPL, and half of his lucrative salary after he injured his finger in the World T20 fixture against Sri Lanka on Monday.
Anderson dislocated and cut his little finger on his right hand while trying to take a catch of Sachithra Senanayake in the field. He was immediately taken to the hospital and didn’t come out to bat during New Zealand’s innings.
New Zealand coach Mike Hesson has estimated the recovery period for Anderson to be around “four to six weeks”.
“Yeah it’s dislocated and he’s got a number of stitches in it so it’s likely four to six weeks – that’s what I’ve heard initially,” Hesson was quoted as saying by Fairfax NZ.
Anderson, who came into limelight after smashing the fastest ODI hundred against West Indies on 1st January 2014, was bought by Mumbai Indians in the IPL auctions in February for a huge sum of Rs 4.5 crore ($NZ 866,000). With IPL scheduled to start on April 16, the all-rounder is now set to miss around a third of the tournament.
The salary is subject to his availability in the tournament and also on his selection in the playing XI.
According to Fairfax, if Anderson is available in early May, he can still target to get 65 percent of his salary ($NZ 562,900). But if he’s not selected in the playing XI by coach John Wright, he would still be pocketing at least $NZ 450,320.
