CPL 2014: Kevin Pietersen to bolster struggling St. Lucia Zouks
Basseterre (St. Kitts), Aug 8 (IANS/CMC) Former England batsman Kevin Pietersen has arrived in St. Kitts to join the St. Lucia Zouks for the remainder of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL).
Pietersen, one of the sport's most exciting batsmen, will seek to bolster the fortunes of Zouks heading into back-to-back matches at Warner Park, reports CMC.
Zouks scored their first victory of the CPL Sunday beating Antigua Hawksbills by five wickets after a string of defeats.
"I love playing cricket in the Caribbean and am really looking forward to experiencing the atmosphere and passion the crowd can generate within Warner Park," said Pietersen.
"There aren't many other grounds in the world that have a party stand with a swimming pool in it".
Pietersen, who scored a hundred at Warner Park in 2009, will be playing for Zouks alongside Captain Darren Sammy and Sohail Tanvir, the Pakistan cricketer whose handy all-round performance propelled Zouks to their first victory of CPL 2014.
"I have played here before and really enjoyed batting -- it is a beautiful ground and a unique place to play. It is a tight ground, and that means lots of fours, sixes and wickets, which is what the fans want to see," said Pietersen.
"CPL is about entertaining cricket and bringing the best players from across the Caribbean and combining them with some of the top overseas players to put on a show the fans across the West Indies deserve. I cannot wait for this weekend."
St. Lucia Zouks play Chris Gayle's Jamaica Tallawahs on Saturday and against the Guyana Amazon Warriors on Sunday.
