Chris Gayle got out on a golden duck in the last game

Team News:

The Jamaica Tallawahs had a disappointing outing in their previous match of the Caribbean Premier League 2016 against the Guyana Amazon Warriors. The Tallawahs were put into bat by the Warriors and were bundled out for a total of 100. Rovman Powell top-scored for the Tallawahs with 38 runs in 42 deliveries. Pakistan all-rounder Imad Wasim bowled beautifully against the Warriors but could not stop them from chasing the target of 101.

With a win in their previous game, the Barbados Tridents will be rearing to go against the Jamaica Tallawahs. The Tridents were set a target of 163 by the Patriots and got there with ease in the end. Pakistan batsman Shoaib Malik constructed a well made 54 from 46 deliveries and got the Tridents off to a good start before AB de Villiers and Kieron Pollard finished the game with 8 balls to spare.

Probable Playing XI:

Jamaica Tallawahs:

Batsmen:

Skipper Chris Gayle registered a golden duck in his previous game after scoring a century against the Trinbago Knight Riders. Opening alongside Gayle was Chadwick Walton, who could manage only 12 runs in 16 deliveries. It will be crucial for the Tallawahs that their openers get going and provide a good start. No. 3 batsman Kumar Sangakkara has got a few starts but has failed to convert those to big scores. The former Sri Lankan International can do some massive damage when in form and that is what the Tallawahs would be hoping for. middle-order batsman Rovman Powell ensured that the Tallawahs reached a total of 100 and provided a sense of calmness in the middle-order. Andre McCarthy was used as a middle-order batsman in the previous game but disappointed after getting out on the first ball.

All-rounders:

Bangladeshi all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan provided some support to Powell, scoring 25 runs but could not rescue the Tallawahs from a defeat. Al Hasan bowled well in his four overs as well, conceding just 21 runs and picking up a wicket as well. Though Imad Wasim scored only 2 runs with the bat, he bowled exceptionally well, conceding just 6 runs in his quota of 4 overs and picking up 2 wickets in the process.

Bowlers:

With only hundred runs to defend, there wasn’t much that the Tallawahs bowlers could do. Dale Steyn bowled 2 overs but could not get a breakthrough. Kesrick Williams went for plenty in the 1 over that he bowled. Garey Mathurin was the pick of the bowlers for the Tallawahs, conceding just 16 runs in his 4 overs.

Probable XI: Chris Gayle (Captain), Chadwick Walton, Kumar Sangakkara (wicket-keeper), Rovman Powell, Andre McCarthy, Shakib Al Hasan, Imad Wasim, Nkrumah Bonner, Garey Mathurin, Dale Steyn, Kesrick Williams.

Barbados Tridents:

Batsmen:

Openers Steven Taylor and Shoaib Malik could add only 19 runs for the first wicket partnership. While Taylor departed early, Malik carried on and registered his first fifty this season in the CPL. The ever dependable AB de Villiers played an exciting knock of 63 in 33 deliveries and took the Tridents to a victory against the Patriots. Skipper Kieron Pollard scored 25 runs in 13 deliveries and will be expected to come good against the Tallawahs. Middle order batsman Imran Khan was chosen to play against the Patriots but was not required as de Villiers and Pollard closed the match.

All-rounders:

David Wiese bowled well for the Tridents in his 3 overs, conceding 14 runs and picking up 2 wickets against the Patriots. Imran Khan bowled 3 overs in the previous match and conceded 27 runs, picking up a wicket as well. Shoaib Malik’s off-spin was helped the Tridents pick up the wicket of JJ Smuts. With a bunch of all-rounders in the team, Pollard will have to utilize his resources well.

Bowlers:

Wayne Parnell has been leading the attack for the Tridents and picked up a couple of wickets in the previous game against the Patriots. West Indies bowler Ravi Rampaul was a bit expensive, conceding 39 runs in 4 overs but picked up the important wicket of Jonathan Carter. Ashley Nurse and Akeal Hosein bowled only an over each and did not make an impression against the Patriots.

Probable XI: Steven Taylor, Shoaib Malik, AB de Villiers, Kieron Pollard (Captain), David Wiese, Imran Khan, Nicholas Pooran (Wicket-keeper), Wayne Parnell, Ravi Rampaul, Ashley Nurse, Akeal Hosein.

Prediction

With Chris Gayle clashing against AB de Villiers, it could be the bowlers who could make a difference in this game. The Tallawahs will start off as favorites against the Tridents.
