CPL 2016: Kieran Powell rushed to hospital after head clash with teammate

Shocking images after the terrible collision at Barbados

West Indies batsman Kieran Powell was carried in an ambulance from the field after he collided terribly with his St.Kitts and Nevis teammate J J Smuts while attempting to take a catch to a lofted drive from Barbados Tridents batsman AB de Villiers at Barbados in the CPL 2016.

De Villiers was at his imperious best racing to a quick fire half century and was batting at 67 when he tried to smash Alzarri Joseph’s ball towards the long on boundary.

Powell ran straight from his position at long on fence and Smuts ran from the opposite direction and both players collided heavily with Powell bearing the effect of the impact as well as landing heavily with his head banging the turf.

It was a pathetic condition as both of them fell flat on the outfield totally dazed as players and support staffs from both the teams rushed to the field for assistance.

Powell was put on a stretcher and was lifted in an ambulance which had arrived on the scene. The game went on and to everyone’s utter disbelief Smuts went on to open the batting for St.Kitts and Nevis barely half an hour after the collision.

Setting an imposing target of 181 courtesy a brilliant 54 ball 82 by AB de Villiers , the Patriots went on to lose the match by 25 runs with notable contributions from the skipper Faf du Plessis(42 of 34) and Jonathan Carter (46 of 38)

Earlier this year Powell had made headlines when he attended a baseball training camp in The United States with the aim of making it to the major baseball league He had worked for several teams including the New York Mets and Milwaukee Brewers before returning to the Caribbean to resume his cricketing career.
