The Cricket Advisory Committee to take a call on Ravi Shastri's future with the Indian team
After India’s semifinal exit at the 2016 ICC World T20, BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur has said that the decision on whether to renew the contract of Team Director Ravi Shastri or appoint a new coach for the side, will be taken by the Cricket Advisory Committee, consisting of Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman.
"Ravi Shastri's contract has ended. We are looking at a full-time coach and the decision will be taken by the Cricket Advisory Committee. There won't be a Team Director and a full-time coach. It will be only one post and even Ravi's contract can come up for renewal," Thakur said.
He also added that the decision will be taken after the conclusion of the World T20 on the 3rd of April and a date for that meeting of the commitee would be zeroed in.
"The meeting of the CAC is expected to happen post April 3. It can happen before the start of the IPL also. We will have to decide on the date," he said.
The present support staff, consisting of Shastri as Team Director, along with Sanjay Bangar, Bharat Arun and R Sridhar as the batting, bowling and fielding coaches respectively, was appointed, following India’s abysmal performance in their Test leg of the 2014 Tour to England, which they lost 3-1.
Under the current regime, India have won an ODI series in England, whitewashed Sri Lanka 5-0 at home, Lost 2-0 to Australia in Australia, reached the semifinals of the 2015 World Cup, Lost an ODI series to Bangladesh on their turf, Lost an home ODI series to South Africa, defeated the Proteas 3-0 in Tests, Lost an ODI series 4-1 to Australia on their home base, beat Australia 3-0 in a T20I series, Won the 2016 Asia Cup, beat Sri Lanka 2-1 in a T20I series at home and reached the semfinals of the 2016 ICC World T20.
Shastri and Co.’s contract was extended up till the World T20 in September last year.
