Cricket Australia alters Phillip Hughes' last match scorecard; batsman to remain 63 not out forever

Cricket Australia (CA) have altered the official scorecard of Phillip Hughes’ last match, representing South Australia against New South Wales, and it will from now on display as Phillip Hughes 63 not out (63*) – and not as Phillip Hughes 63 retired hurt.

South Australia, opting to bat first in a Sheffield Shield match at Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on November 25, had scored 136/2 runs in 48.2 overs when a bouncer from fast bowler Sean Abbott hit the 25-year-old’s head. The match was abandoned immediately as Hughes was flown to St. Vincent's Hospital after he fell unconscious on the ground seconds after the blow.

He died two days later at the hospital.

Cricket Australia chief executive James Sutherland said: "It might seem like a little thing, but it's an important distinction. Phillip will forever remain 63 not out."

CA have been making sure that they do all that that is in their powers to honour Hughes. Captain Michael Clarke yesterday confirmed that the board had agreed to his suggestion that the youngster’s ODI jersey No. 64 should be retired.
