Cricket Australia troll ECB over Kevin Pietersen sacking

Kevin Pietersen

Cricket Australia took a dig at their English counterparts on Twitter after Kevin Pietersen’s half-century helped the Melbourne Stars tie their match against the Sydney Sixers at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) last week. The Stars would later go on to win the match in the super over.

Pietersen was sacked from the English cricket team after a disastrous tour to Australia last year that saw the hosts regaining the Ashes with a 5-0 thrashing. Despite being England’s best batsman in that particular Test series, the South African-born cricketer was dropped by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) as he was considered a disruptive influence in the team.

After his sacking, Pietersen has turned out for various T20 franchises across the world.

After failing to impress for the Delhi Daredevils and the St Lucia Zouks, the 34-year-old has been performing well for the Melbourne Stars. He has scored two half-centuries and a 49 in five matches so far.

Here’s what Cricket Australia had tweeted after Pietersen’s 54 against the Sixers on January 5:
