Cricket betting racket busted in Hyderabad, 3 held
Hyderabad - Hyderabad police have busted a cricket betting racket with the arrest of three people and seized cash and some equipment.
A special team busted the racket after receiving credible information yesterday that some people were accepting betting on the IPL match being played between the Kolkata Knight Riders and Pune Warriors.
Police seized Rs 1,20,000 cash, one line box with 20 cell phones, one laptop, two television sets, a two-wheeler and other articles used for betting, said a statement from the police commissioner’s office on Thursday. Venkata Rama Raju alias Ramesh (28) and Kare Srinivas Rao (38) were accepting bets using the cell phones and the laptop.
Veeracharla Prudhivi Raju (38), a native of the East Godavari district, was working as collection agent for them.
Jubliee Hills police conducted raid at house in Kukatpally Housing Board colony from where the betting racket was being run.
A case was booked at Jubliee Hills police station and further investigations were on.
