UFC News: Virat Kohli tweets out inspirational Conor McGregor quote
Fresh off masterminding a 246 run victory over England in the second Test, Team India captain Virat Kohli was understandably in a triumphant mood and took to social media to express it.
Top man, top words and so true. Respect @TheNotoriousMMA #Legend pic.twitter.com/kB4TwTQYml
— Virat Kohli (@imVkohli) November 23, 2016
Tweeting a quote from the UFC’s newly crowned 2-weight World Champion Notorious Conor McGregor, Kohli also appended a few complimentary words of his own, referring to the Irishman as a ‘top man’.
While it is public knowledge that Virat Kohli is an ardent fan of football, to see him tweet out a quote from MMA’s golden boy is evidential of the sport’s growth in mainstream circles. Perhaps in reflection of what it took Kohli to scale the sport of cricket, McGregor mentions that there is nothing such as talent but instead that the only thing that matters is hard work and ‘obsession’ towards your craft.
McGregor was the UFC’s Featherweight Champion when he knocked out the Lightweight Champion Eddie Alvarez within 2 rounds at UFC 205, to cement his name in the history books as the first man to hold UFC Titles in two weight divisions simultaneously.
Largely considered as a niche sport, the advent of global superstars such as Ronda Rousey and now Conor McGregor, has seen the UFC – the premier promotion in MMA today – begin to ingratiate itself within the fold of mainstream sport in a big way.
With his charismatic personality and explosive fighting style, Conor McGregor has pulled in an immense number of eyeballs into the sport and it would seem that he has also earned yet another high-profile fan in the Indian cricket captain.
After all, as they say, greatness always recognises greatness.
