Cricket sponsorship deal at age seven for wonderkid from Gujarat

Vasu Lukka in action

A seven-year-old kid from Gujarat has made news with his cricketing talent. The four-foot-tall wonder boy has grabbed a sponsorship from Anthem Sports, a cricketing goods company, that was established in 1996. He is the youngest player to grab a sponsorship from the company.

An all-rounder in the cricket field, Vasu Lukka said that he has been playing the game since he was four. “I used to watch cricket matches with my father and one day I asked him to buy me a cricket kit.” the young wonder said.

Having recognized his talent in the game at such an early age, Vasu’s father, Amit has high hopes for him. “Every day I practice with him and I see his focus, whether on field or off. If he focuses well, I am sure, he can go further.” the land developing businessman said.

The young Vasu Lukka represents his cricket club from Porbandar, the birth place of Gandhiji, in various tournaments in his age category. Already making a name for himself in the game, the youngster has proved his worth as a pocket dynamo. Wearing a number 22 jersey and a helmet with an Indian flag, the prodigy hopes to represent India someday in the international level. The kid with a big dream hopes to bat like MS Dhoni and bowl like Dale Steyn.

There have been innumerable instances of child prodigys showing incredible promise, only to fizzle out on fulfilling their potential. A lot depends on the support system around the child, education, and the drive to succeed ingrained in him/her. If he Vasu Lukka can keep his head firmly on his shoulders and work diligently, he has a chance to surprise and surpass expectations. A lot depends on the mentors he can get to learn from and the facilities he avails. With the sponsorship in his bag, it should make it easier to establish himself as a legitimate prospect going forward.

The third grade student is proud to have won his Cricket Academy a match in a tournament where he bowled the final over. “I had taken a wicket in the final over and we won by three runs,” he said, quite happily.

“I used to be afraid of big fast bowlers but now no more,” said the talented and confident new star. With his cricketing talent in abundance, be it in batting, bowling or fielding, the youngster is dedicated to playing for India one day and make his parents and his country proud.
