Cricketers wish VVS Laxman on his 42nd birthday

Happy birthday, VVS

Former Indian cricketer and the mentor of Sunrisers Hyderabad, VVS Laxman is celebrating his 42nd birthday today and wishes have been pouring in from former teammates and the Indian cricket fraternity.

Laxman has given the Indian cricket fans a lot of moments to cherish. His mammoth 281 against Australia at the historic Eden Gardens Test in 2001, 167 against the same opposition at Sydney in 1999, match-winning vigil at Mohali in 2010 against Australia in spite of back spasms, are some of the memorable knocks that come to mind when we talk about Laxman.

In an international career that spanned over 16 years, Laxman has gone on to become one of the greats of the game but was often overshadowed by the fab four (Virender Sehwag, Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly) of Indian batting. In the 134 Tests he played for India, Laxman scored 8781 runs at an average of 45.97 with a personal best of 281.

During his 281 against the Aussies, he became the first Indian to score 250 in Tests and held the highest individual score by an Indian batsman in Tests till Virender Sehwag scored 309 against Pakistan at Multan in 2004. After retiring in 2012, Laxman is serving as a mentor for Sunrisers Hyderabad apart from being a part of the commentary panel for the Hindi audience.
