Cristiano Ronaldo dreams of playing Champions League final in Lisbon
Real Madrid ace Cristiano Ronaldo is confident of edging past defending champions Bayern Munich to secure a place in the Champions league finals for the first time since 2002, reports Daily News and Analysis. The Galacticos hold a precious 1-0 advantage over the Bavarians courtesy to Karim Benzema’s 19th minute strike, despite the visitors enjoying a lions’ share of possession.
Los Blancos are chasing an elusive tenth European crown after clinching their last of it 12 years ago and now look even more desperate for conquering the La Decima dream. “We’ve been in four consecutive semi-finals and I think this year is the time we can reach the final and then we have to think of something even greater”, the former Manchester United player said.
What makes this final even more dearer is that it will be held in Ronaldo’s homeland Lisbon, Portugal to which he adds,”It would be a dream to play a final in Lisbon in front of the Portuguese public. It is a great stadium, but we have a final first on Tuesday. We are dreaming of being in Lisbon and I think we are going to do it.”
With the biggest stage in football-the FIFA World Cup in Brazil fast approaching, the Portuguese captain has kept all his world cup ambitions aside for the moment to focus solely on winning the Champions League for the first time with Madrid. “I have to fight in the games, train hard and, especially in the national team, lead by example because I am captain.”
“I am also the one with the most caps, but I like it because everyone in the national team has a very good relationship. As I have said before, we are not favourites at the World Cup.” he quotes.
He further adds, “We will try to enjoy it. For me we have the strongest group in the World Cup. We have a difficult game against Germany to start and then we will see how we get on against Ghana and the USA. Hopefully we can get to the knockout stages.”
Ronaldo has already played in the finals of CL twice, both with his former club Manchester United in 2008 and ’09, winning the first and losing the latter.
