Daniel Vettori appointed as Big Bash League outfit Brisbane Heat's head coach

Daniel Vettori

Recently retired New Zealand spinner Daniel Vettori has been confirmed as the head coach of Big Bash League side Brisbane Heat. Vettori, who will replace Stuart Law, has signed a contract that will last for three years.

Law was ousted from the club after a dismal 2013/14 season which saw the Heat win just 2 matches out of the 8 they played in.

Vettori had recently put an end to his playing career at the end of the World Cup, where New Zealand lost against Australia in the final. But, the spinner has not opted to stay out of the game for long and decided to try things from a coach’s perspective.

“Grateful to RCB for allowing me to work as coach last year”

The left-armer seemed excited by the upcoming project. He said, “It is a big job but one that I am excited about tackling.”

The 36-year-old, however, is no stranger to the coaching position, having worked as a coach for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the IPL last year. He said that he was grateful to the IPL-outfit for helping him develop his coaching skills.

“I found my initial experience as the coach of Bangalore in the IPL to be very rewarding last year and so I am grateful to them for allowing me this additional opportunity to develop my coaching skills and background,” he added.

“I have greatly enjoyed my time as a player with Brisbane and have a lot of respect for Queensland Cricket as an organisation, going back to my very early days with them when Twenty20 was still seen as a bit of a novelty.”

The 2014/15 season was won by Perth Scorchers with Brisbane Heat finishing at the foot of the table with just 4 points from 8 matches.
