Daredevils decimate Mumbai Indians

The Delhi Daredevils put in a fine bowling performance to comfortably beat the Mumbai Indians by 7 wickets.

Daredevils captain Virender Sehwag played a cautious innings, 32 runs of 36 balls, to make the chase all the more easy. His innings consisted of two boundaries and one hit that sailed into the stands. RP Singh on his return tried to put Mumbai in the game by dismissing Naman Ojha and Kevin Pietersen for 13 and 9 runs respectively. Sehwag lost his wicket to Ojha after skying one straight to Levi at long-on.

But the Daredevils had other plans in mind. Mahela Jayawardene and Ross Taylor completed the formalities for the Daredevils with the former scoring an unbeaten 17 runs of 20 balls while Taylor, who was also unbeaten at the crease, gave good support with 11 runs of 10 balls. The Daredevils reached the target in 14.5 overs with 31 balls remaining.

Earlier, the Delhi Daredevils won the toss and put Mumbai Indians to bat. However, the openers did not provide the required start for Mumbai with both Richard Levi and Davy Jacob getting out on single figures. Rohit Sharma walked out at number 3 to restore some balance into the attack. However, he ran out of partners at the other end with Ambati Rayadu, Keiron Pollard and Dinesh Karthik getting out cheaply. Umesh Yadav got the crucial wickets of Pollard and Karthik, ending with outstanding figures of 2 wickets in 4 overs at the cost of just 11 runs!

Rohit Sharma played a brief knock of 29 runs in 27 balls, laced with five cracking boundaries, while Harbhajan Singh showed some resistance with a splendid cameo of 33 runs in 22 balls with five boundaries and a huge hit over the fence. Ajit Agarkar came into the attack and got the wicket of Sharma after the batsman was caught at deep backward square by Ross Taylor. Morne Morkel got Harbhajan out who edged it straight to the wicket-keeper. The tail-enders did not add much to the total as Mumbai were bundled out for 92 runs with Nadam, Agarkar, Morkel and Yadav picking up two wickets a piece.
