Darren Bravo of West Indies ruled out of 2015 World Cup due to hamstring tear
As if the crushing 257-run loss against South Africa wasn’t enough, the West Indies were dealt a further blow on Thursday after batsman Darren Bravo was ruled out of the ongoing 2015 World Cup in Australia-New Zealand due to a low-grade tear to his left hamstring.
The 26-year-old left-hander suffered the injury while trying to take a single during his side’s second Pool B encounter against Pakistan at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch last Saturday and had to retire hurt after scoring 49 runs off 78 balls.
The injury ruled him out of his side’s next two group games against Zimbabwe and South Africa, but he was expected to recover in time for the match against India at Perth on March 6th.
Windies expected to name Bravo replacement
However, a source within the team revealed on Thursday that Bravo was still being unable able to run and he was taking longer time than expected to recover from the bruise.
The middle-order batsman has played 87 ODIs for his country ever since making his debut in June 2009, and has scored 2220 runs at an average of 32.64. He was part of the squad that reached the quarter-finals of the 2011 World Cup held in the Indian subcontinent, and scored 139 runs in 7 matches in that tournament.
West Indies will announce a cover for him later this week as they don't have an additional batsman in their squad.
