Daryl Tuffey releases statement regarding spot-fixing claims
The former New Zealand fast bowler Daryl Tuffey, whose name was also involved in the spot-fixing scandal that surfaced last year alongside Chris Cairns and Lou Vincent has broken his silence releasing a statement that he is fully aware of all the testimonies given to the ICC.
He also mentioned that he has not read the copy of Eleanor Riley’s(Vincent’s Ex-wife) testimony about the allegations that he was also a suspect and benefitted from spot-fixing money. He however claimed that no eveidence has been found against his name to prove that he was involved in fixing matches.
The right-arm seamer also added that he will continue to co-operate with the ICC regarding this issue and is confident that he will be cleared by them.
The Kiwi bowler also stated that he will take all the necessary steps to safeguard himself from the pointless accusations and take legal action against who publish false reports to harm his reputation.
The statement released by Daryl Tuffey:
Mr Tuffey is aware of media reports of the content of testimony given to the International Cricket Council by the former wife of Lou Vincent, Eleanor Riley.
Mr Tuffey has not seen a copy of Ms Riley.s account but has been asked by the media to comment on allegations that he was involved in or financially benefited from match-fixing or spot-betting.
These allegations are regarded by Mr Tuffey as the most serious kind and are unequivocally denied by him.
Since the commencement of this matter earlier this year to date, Mr Tuffey or his lawyers have not been presented with a single scintilla of evidence to substantiate these claims.
Mr Tuffey is naturally frustrated by the unsubstantiated attacks on his good name levelled by a few self-interested individuals. He does, however, remain committed to continued co-operation with the authorities regarding this matter and is confident that he will ultimately be cleared of any wrong-doing.
Finally, Mr Tuffey will take whatever steps are necessary to protect his reputation and will not hesitate to take legal action against those responsible for the publication of any false and defamatory material concerning him.
