David Warner defends himself after he gets trolled for choosing not to watch BBL or Lleyton Hewitt

Thursday was a big night of sporting events in Australia – as Lleyton Hewitt played his last Grand Slam match in the Australian Open, the Adelaide Strikers and Sydney Thunders squared off against each for the first semi-final of the Big Bash League season.

While many Australian sportsmen tweeted their homage to Hewitt for having flown the Australian flag for years, and others followed the unfolding T20 action, David Warner sat down in the comfort of his home to watch ‘The Martian’, a 2015 science-fiction film from Hollywood.

The ‘iTunes link in my bio’ makes it possible that Warner was actually not actually sitting down to watch a film at the time the tweet was posted, but the unfortunate timing of it did not go unnoticed.

There were varying degrees of disdain, but a lot of people seemed united on the opinion that Warner should have been watching either the cricket or the tennis match instead of a film then.

Despite not needing to, Warner also came up with a defence of his tweet.
