David Warner set to undergo a minor surgery
What's the story?
David Warner, the Australian left-handed batsman who is currently serving a one-year ban, is all set to get himself operated on Tuesday (22 January 2019) after suffering from an elbow injury.
The incident happened in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League, and soon after catching up with an injury, David Warner flew back to Australia in a bid to get himself assessed for the same.
The heart of the matter
Although Warner's maiden BPL tourney ended in an unfortunate way, his injury isn't expected to embarrass his World Cup plans as it is set to be a minor surgery for David. As per the reports in Cricbuzz, the Australian batsman will be assessed in Melbourne tomorrow and is set to go under surgery the same day itself.
Post the surgery Warner will be wearing a flexible strap for a week and will take another 21 days to resume training at full strength. All in all, David will fare a four-week hiatus.
It is worthy to note that, Warner's injury is unlike Steve Smith who is expected to be out of action for six weeks and might miss out on the early stage of IPL as well.
The background
David Warner injured himself during a league game between Sylhet Sixers and Rangpur Riders in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League while scoring a fiery knock of 61 for Sylhet Sixers in the game.
The injury unquestionably came at a wrong time as Warner had a decent outing in his maiden BPL season. He didn't kick-off well as he scored a meagre 14 on debut. However, the southpaw got back on the track and scored 223 runs from the seven games that he played in BPL before being injured.
What's next
Warner and Smith will be relieved from the bans, levied on them by Cricket Australia, on 28 March and will be up for the grabs in the midst of ODI series between Pakistan.
However, Smith will be racing against time to recover from injury while Warner will be available for the selection. Thus, unlike Smith, Warner will get adequate time to prepare for the 2019 World Cup.
