David Warner slams record breaking 197 in Ryobi Cup

Explosive opening batsman David Warner smashed 197 off 141 balls

David Warner slammed 197 for New South Wales yesterday against Victoria in Ryobi Cup, breaking the record of the highest domestic one-day innings in Australia.

In the knockout round, batting first, Victoria reached 321/9 after the end of their quota of 50 overs. Chasing a steep target for victory, Warner was into attacking mode from the word go and never looked back.

Though Warner was dismissed 3 short of a double hundred, NSW were able to secure victory with three balls and six wickets still in hand. This victory puts them in the final, where they’ll face Queensland this Sunday, on 27th October.

Warner smashed 10 sixes and 20 fours in this 141-ball innings and was named the Man of the Match. Left-arm medium pace bowler William Sheridan was in for some special hammering as he leaked 73 runs in his 7 overs.

“I thought I had to play out the 50 overs for us to have a chance so it was a case of clearing my mind to do that,” he said after the match.

David Warner has been in some exceptional form of late, with scores of 139, 138, 32 and 197 in his last four innings in the Ryobi Cup, Australia’s domestic one-day tournament.

He was not included in the Australian side currently touring India for the limited overs series, but seems to be shaping up nicely to stake a claim in the Test side for the upcoming Ashes down under.
