DC vs CSK, IPL 2023: CSK Player Ratings as Conway, Gaikwad help Men in Yellow cruise into playoffs with thumping win
The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) sealed their spot in the playoffs of the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) as they thrashed the Delhi Capitals (DC) by 77 runs on Saturday, May 20.
The Men in Yellow elected to bat first in the afternoon fixture, with openers Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway making merry under the sun. CSK put up a massive 223/3, a score DC came nowhere near despite David Warner's lone vigil.
Here are CSK's player ratings from Match 67 of IPL 2023 against DC.
IPL 2023, DC vs CSK: Conway, Gaikwad hit fifties; all bowlers chip in for Men in Yellow
Ruturaj Gaikwad: 9.5/10
Gaikwad crossed the 50-run mark for the first time since CSK's second game of IPL 2023. Although he started slightly slowly on a tricky wicket to bat on, he accelerated in trademark fashion against the spinners in the middle overs. The youngster was superb on the field as well.
Devon Conway: 9.5/10
Conway held the CSK innings together once again, with yet another meaningful contribution at the top. The Kiwi ran hard between the wickets and capitalized on anything loose. Like Gaikwad, he gave it his all on the field.
Ajinkya Rahane: 6/10
Rahane wasn't required with the bat in Delhi. His fielding was expectedly good.
Ambati Rayudu: 7/10
Like Rahane, Rayudu didn't spend any time at the crease. He plucked a superb catch at mid-off to dismiss Prithvi Shaw.
Moeen Ali: 6/10
Moeen had a quiet outing in Delhi. He neither batted nor bowled, but held two simple catches in the second innings.
Shivam Dube: 8/10
Dube has turned into a seriously reliable performer for the Men in Yellow. He waltzed in at No. 3 and hammered three sixes in his nine-ball 22.
Ravindra Jadeja: 5/10
Jadeja essayed a superb cameo towards the end of the CSK innings, making 20 off seven. The left-arm spinner didn't have a great time with the ball, though, as the DC left-handers picked him apart. He conceded 50 runs in his four-over spell.
MS Dhoni: 5/10
Dhoni couldn't get any balls away to the boundary. His decision to bowl Jadeja to David Warner and Axar Patel wasn't the smartest one, but maybe he wanted to give the all-rounder a challenge ahead of the playoffs.
Maheesh Theekshana: 8/10
Theekshana turned in an improved performance on Saturday. His first three overs were fairly economical and he managed to send down a two-wicket maiden in the final over to cap off a comprehensive CSK display.
Deepak Chahar: 8/10
Chahar prised out Phil Salt and Rilee Rossouw in the powerplay even though there wasn't much assistance on offer. He later returned to dismiss Axar, securing a three-fer in another important wicket-taking spell.
Matheesha Pathirana [impact]: 8/10
Pathirana is almost always impossible to hit at the death. Although he got his radar wrong on several occasions and delivered quite a few wides, his four overs cost just 22. The slingy seamer picked up two wickets with well-disguised slower balls, including that of Warner.
Tushar Deshpande: 8/10
Deshpande was also superb in Delhi. He sent back Prithvi Shaw and nailed his yorkers almost perfectly at the death.
