DC vs CSK: Scorecards, Highlights, and Results of Delhi Capitals and Chennai Super Kings' last match in IPL 2023
The first game in Saturday's (May 20) double-header will see the Delhi Capitals (DC) take on Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the 67th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. The much-awaited encounter will be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
Delhi, who have already been eliminated from the tournament, will enter the game on the back of a resounding win over the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in their previous game.
In their last away game of the season, DC were put to bat first by Shikhar Dhawan at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala.
They were handed a superb start by their openers David Warner and Prithvi Shaw. The two added 94 runs for the opening wicket before the former was holed out for 46. Shaw completed his fifty afterwards before getting dismissed for a well-made 54.
Rilee Rossouw then took the game by the scruff of its neck and clobbered PBKS bowlers all around the park. The South African hit a magnificent 37-ball 82*, with six boundaries and as many sixes.
Rossouw's innings led DC to 213/2 in the first innings. Sam Curran was the only successful bowler for Punjab, taking 2/36 in his four overs.
PBKS needed a strong start to have any chance in the game. However, the hosts lost Dhawan on a golden duck. DC were superb with the ball, especially their pacers Ishant Sharma, Anrich Nortje and Khaleel Ahmed, who took five wickets amongst them.
Despite Shahrukh Khan, Sam Curran and Jitesh Sharma failing quickly, Liam Livingstone kept Punjab alive in the contest. The Englishman plummeted an unbeaten 94* off only 48 balls, powered by five fours and nine maximums.
Ishant Sharma defended 32 runs in the last over as Delhi won the game by 15 runs to go ninth on the table.
CSK scorecard from their previous IPL 2023 game
Chennai, who will play Delhi after a six-day break, lost their previous IPL 2023 encounter, which was against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
Hosting their last league game of the season at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, the MS Dhoni-led unit endured a comprehensive six-wicket defeat.
After opting to bat first, almost all the CSK batters failed to convert their starts. While openers Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway registered 17 and 30, respectively, Ajinkya Rahane perished for 16 runs in the eighth over.
Sunil Narine struck twice in the 11th over when he dismissed both Moeen Ali and Ambati Rayudu to send CSK reeling at 72/5. Shivam Dube (48* off 34) and Ravindra Jadeja (20 off 24) added 68 for the sixth wicket as CSK managed to pile up 144 in the first innings.
CSK pacer Deepak Chahar hurt Kolkata early in the chase, claiming the first three wickets to fall. He dismissed all three of Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Jason Roy and Venkatesh Iyer.
KKR were at 33/3 when Nitish Rana and Rinku Singh joined hands to bail KKR out of trouble. The two left-handers batted admirably well and negotiated the CSK spinners were right application.
While Rinku scored a brilliant 43-ball 54, Rana remained unbeaten at 57* till the end to guide the Knight Riders past the total with six wickets and nine balls remaining.
