Delhi Daredevils allrounder Marcus Stoinis hits six sixes in an over
Delhi Daredevils’ Australian allrounder Marcus Stoinis has hit six sixes in an over in a club game, reports Cricket Australia. He achieved this rare feat against the National Indigenous Squad at Allan Border Field while representing the National Performance Squad in a 50 over match.
He scored 121 runs from just 73 deliveries and part-timer Brendan Smith was at the receiving end when he launched those hits. Even though, Smith bowled well in the previous match, he couldn’t control a rampaging Stoinis as he conceded 37 runs in that over (including a wide).
The feat was achieved during the 37th over of the innings when NPS were struggling at 165 for 5. The first three sixes were all identical as he dispatched them all over mid-wicket. The next three were hit over long-on. As much as Stoinis deserves all the credit, Smith exactly didn’t try out enough variations to test the batsman.
The Victorian was pretty modest about the feat as he labeled it as a ‘bit of slog’. "Really it was a bit of slog. I pretty much put them all over mid-wicket," he told cricket.com.au.
"There were a couple of pull shots and a couple a bit straighter than that. It was a short boundary so I just got them up in their air and they just floated over."
This feat won’t make it to the record books though since it was a non-sanctioned practice match. Officially, there were only four instances of a batsman hitting six sixes in an over. The first one happened in 1968 when Gary Sobers became the first man to achieve the feat.
India’s Ravi Shastri then did it 17 years later in a Ranji Trophy match against Baroda. That was followed by Herschelle Gibbs in the 2007 World Cup against the Dutch and then by Yuvraj Singh during the 2007 World T20 against England where he launched Stuart Broad for six sixes.
