JP Duminy appointed captain of Delhi Daredevils

South African all-rounder JP Duminy has been appointed as the captain of Delhi Daredevils for the Indian Premier League 2015. Duminy was one of few players to be retained by the team after their 2014 campaign, as they released many big name players like Kevin Pietersen, Dinesh Karthik, Murali Vijay, Ross Taylor and Wayne Parnell among others. Duminy will lead a team which has few more South Africans in their ranks such as the World Cup winning coach Gary Kirsten, Imran Tahir, Quinton de Kock and Albie Morkel.

Delhi Daredevils have revamped their squad for the upcoming season and brought in new players for the franchise, with Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh being the marquee signing for the team. He was bought for Rs.16 Crore in the recently held IPL 2015 Auction. Other prominent names include Angelo Mathews, Zaheer Khan and Mohammed Shami.

Being appointed as the captain for the IPL side, JP Duminy said,

“I’m grateful for the support and belief from the franchisee. It’s an absolute privilege to lead such a talented mix of players. I am excited about the season ahead and sincerely hope, we will be able to turn around the fortunes of DD  in the upcoming IPL season”.

Gary Kirsten, their Head coach said,

“JP is the right choice to lead the team for the upcoming season. He has the necessary experience and demeanour to take the team forward. I have seen him progress and mature as a player and leader through the years with the South African national team. I look forward to working with him in the upcoming IPL season”.

Hemant Dua, CEO of the Delhi Daredevils said that,

“We at the franchise believe JP Duminy is the right choice to lead the Delhi Daredevils team. He has the necessary credentials and his track record is a proof of his experience. He is a composed individual and well-respected by his teammates and peers.” he added.

“We at Delhi Daredevils are confident that under his guidance and leadership we will have a great IPL 8 season.”
