Delhi Daredevils director TA Sekar steps down

<p>

What's the story?

Delhi Daredevils announced that director TA Sekar has stepped down from his role due to personal reasons. The franchise's chief executive Hemant Dua confirmed that the former India fast bowler will no longer be associated with DD.

In a press release, Hemant Dua said: “We respect Sekar's decision. We are naturally very disappointed to not have Sekar in our midst going forward, but as a franchise we clearly understand his position. Sekar was an invaluable asset to the franchise and his departure leaves a vacuum that will be difficult to fill.”

Speaking about his departure, Sekar said: “It has been a very difficult decision for me to make, but it was for purely personal reasons. I’m grateful for the support and understanding from the franchise. It has been an absolute privilege being part of the franchise since its inception in 2008.”

In case you didn't know...

Sekar has been a key member of the franchise and has been with the side since its inception. It was under him and along with the help of Rahul Dravid and co. that Delhi Daredevils developed a culture of developing young players.

The Details

An association that began at the inception of the Indian Premier League ended with Dua announcing that he will no longer play any role with the Delhi Daredevils.

What's next?

With player retention rules still unclear and the IPL Auction just a few months away, it will be interesting to see who the Delhi Daredevils appoint as his replacement.

Author's take

For someone who has been involved with the franchise from its inception to leave the side is a decision that is unlikely to have been taken in a moment. The fact that he is leaving due to personal reasons also highlights the nature of his departure.

While losing him will be a big blow for Delhi Daredevils, they will be hoping to get a suitable replacement, especially with player retention rules still up in the air and the IPL Auction for the 11th edition of the tournament just a few months away.
