Delhi Daredevils vs Kings XI Punjab Match Video Highlights, IPL 2016: Amit Mishra, de Kock secure an easy win for Delhi Daredevils
Delhi Daredevils welcomed Kings XI Punjab in the seventh match of the Indian Premier League at Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi. Both teams had lost their opening match and a win here was important to just kick-start their tournament. Delhi won the toss and elected to bowl first. JP Duminy and Jayant Yadav came in for DD but Kings XI Punjab remained unchanged.
KXIP openers, who had given their side a great start in the first match, failed this time as Murali Vijay(1) was run out because of miscommunication. Shaun Marsh walked in at number 3 with Manan Vohra at the other end. The Delhi pitch has always suited the bowlers and even today the pitch was on the slower side. Vohra and Marsh tried to build a partnership but Amit Mishra struck with his first ball as Marsh(13) was stumped by de Kock.
David Miller then arrived at the crease and he had the responsibility to build the innings along with Vohra. Zaheer Khan was superb in his captaincy as Delhi bowlers kept the line tight and did not give easy runs for the batsmen. Amit Mishra then struck twice in the same over to remove Miller(9) and Maxwell(0). Miller tried to play the sweep shot too many times and was adjudged LBW while Maxwell threw his wicket away by playing a big shot on his third ball itself. Things got worse for KXIP as Mishra took his fourth wicket of the day to dismiss settled Vohra for 32.
KXIP batsmen were finding ways to get out as Wriddhiman Saha got run out for 3 in the 13th over. DD were excellent in the field today as Punjab looked at their lower-middle order to take them towards a respectable total. Jayant Yadav then removed Axar Patel(11) as Pawan Negi took an excellent dipping catch. None of the rest batsmen were able to contribute as Kings XI Punjab finished their innings on 111/9 in their 20 overs.
Amit Mishra was the standout bowler as he finished with 4/11 in his 3 overs. Jayant Yadav(1/23), Chris Morris(1/19) and Zaheer Khan(1/14) were clinical too.
Chasing a small total of 112, Delhi Daredevils openers were cautious at the start. Shreyas Iyer, who showed a lot of promise in the last season, failed to get going and he was caught on the leg-side off the bowling of Sandeep Sharma for just 3 runs. Quinton de Kock and Sanju Samson then played some sensible cricket as they looked for the singles and doubles instead of going for the big shots.
But once they got settled at the crease, both batsmen were not afraid to hit the loose ball which were offered. Kings XI Punjab bowlers tried everything but could not break this partnership. KXIP were clearly having a bad day at the office as Murali Vijay dropped de Kock and he took total advantage of that. The wicketkeeper-batsman reached his fifty in 38 balls as Delhi were cruising towards victory. Axar Patel struck for KXIP as he removed Samson. Sanju Samson played sensibly as he scored 33 vital runs. Delhi Daredevils won the match comfortably in the end. Quinton de Kock remained unbeaten on 59 as Pawan Negi hit the winning runs. Amit Mishra got the Man of the Match award for his beautiful spell of 4/11.
Delhi would be happy with their performance with a good display in all three departments of the game. While Kings XI Punjab will have to look at their batting performance more carefully. The batting department has to stand up start scoring runs. With that win, DD are fifth in the table and Kings XI Punjab are seventh.
