Dhaka police register case against Shahadat Hossain
A case has been registered under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act against the Bangladeshi cricketer Shahadat Hossain and his wife who are accused of beating and torturing their 11-year-old maid, reports ABPLive. Police raided Shahadat's house last night but did not find anything.
According to the reports, Shahadat filed a complaint on August 6 in the afternoon with Mirpur police saying that their housemaid is missing and untraceable. On the same night, a local journalist named Khandakar Mozzamel Haque found the maid and took her to Mirpur police station.
Under the local authority jurisdiction, the case filed later and she was sent to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment. Soon, the Dhaka police registered a case against the cricketer and his wife.
"A girl has complained to us of being tortured by national cricketer Sahadat Hossain and his wife," a police official said. "She got her complaints recorded as we saw injury marks on her body and then sent her to the One Stop Crisis Centre of Dhaka Medical College Hospital immediately."
In another report in ESPNcricinfo, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) said it's embarrassing and they never expected this from the 29-year-old cricketer.
"We still don't know the full incident. But from what we have seen in the media, it is unwanted," said BCB CEO Nizam Uddin Chowdhury. "We didn't expect this from a senior cricketer like him. We are embarrassed.”
Hossain has represented Bangladesh in 38 Test and 51 one-day international matches. The right-arm medium fast bowler has 72 Test wickets and 51 ODI wickets to his name.
Earlier this year, another Bangladeshi fast bowler, Rubel Hossain, was booked under the same act just before the ICC cricket World Cup. He was accused by Naznin Akter Happy, an actress for making false assurances of marriage. She also accused him for raping her.
Many in Bangladesh came out on social media to express their anger:
Bangladesh cricket Board should impose lifetime ban on Sahadat Hossain from international cricket. Cricket is not for animal... #Bangladesh
