Dhoni can surely play under Kohli in ODIs: Aakash Chopra
Chennai, Dec 19 (IANS) Former India opener Aakash Chopra feels Test skipper Virat Kohli should be handed the mantle of the One-Day International (ODI) side if the selectors do not feel incumbent Mahendra Singh Dhoni can continue till the 2019 cricket World Cup.
The Delhi batsman on Monday said the national selectors must take a call after the 2017 Champions Trophy on Dhoni's future, so that Kohli can get atleast two years in such a scenario.
The 39-year-old, however, did not see any problems of Dhoni playing under the 28-year-old Kohli in the 50-over format of the game.
"Yes, Dhoni can surely play under Kohli in ODI," Chopra said during commentary of the India's ongoing fifth and final Test against England at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium here.
"But that's a call selectors need to take post the Champions trophy in 2017. If they don't view Dhoni as a captain in 2019, it's only fair to give Kohli two years before the event," he added.
The 35-year-old Dhoni has led India to two World Cup victories (World T20 in 2007 and 50-over World Cup in 2011) and the Champions Trophy crown in 2013 besides guiding the side to No.1 in the International Cricket Council (ICC) Test Rankings in December 2009.
