Dinesh Chandimal to captain Sri Lanka against South Africa

Dinesh Chandimal

Dinesh Chandimal will captain Sri Lanka for the first two ODIs in the five-match series to be played against South Africa.

The hosts Sri Lanka were forced into making this change due to their regular captain Angelo Mathews being banned for two matches, following the team’s slow over-rate in the final of the West Indies tri-nation series.

There was good news for Thisara Perera who received a recall. He had been left out of the squad that had played in the West Indies. In a surprise pick the selectors have also picked Jehan Mubarak, who last played an ODI way back in January 2009.

Sri Lanka squad: Dinesh Chandimal (capt), Lahiru Thirimanne (vice capt), Tillakaratne Dilshan, Kumar Sangakkara, Upul Tharanga, Mahela Jayawardene, Jehan Mubarak, Angelo Perera,  Rangana Herath, Ajantha Mendis, Sachithra Senanayake, Lasith Malinga, Shaminda Eranga, Thisara Perera and Suranga Lakmal.
