ECB chief does not rule out possibility of Kevin Pietersen's return for England

Pietersen was dropped from the England squad after his disastrous performance at the Ashes tour of 2013-14.

Colin Graves, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) chairman, has given Kevin Pietersen some hope for representing the Three Lions again. Pietersen was dropped from the England squad after his disastrous performance at the Ashes tour of 2013-14.

But with England’s horrible run at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 and Pietersen’s eagerness to return to the national team, Graves has proposed that a return to English county cricket could pave a path towards Pietersen’s comeback.

“The first thing he has to do if he wants to get back is start playing county cricket," Graves told BBC Radio 5 on Sunday.

"The selectors and the coaches are not going to pick him if he's not playing. It's as simple as that. I'll leave it at that."

Pietersen who recently left Surrey, is left without a county, and according to Graves, the only way the South African-origin batsman can hope to return is if the selectors see him in action.

When Graves was asked if he wanted Pietersen back or not, he had the following to say: "At the end of the day it's down to the selectors and coaches and what they feel is best for English cricket.

"They will make the decisions and I will support their decisions."
