Eight Pakistan players fined for breaking ICC World Cup curfew
Eight Pakistan players have been fined for breaching the team curfew before their World Cup opener against India on Sunday. The players have also been warned that a repeat offense would see them kicked out off the ICC Cricket World Cup tournament which starts on Saturday. These eight players including their former captain Shahid Afridi, opener Ahmed Shehzad, Wahab Riaz, Haris Sohail were fined 300 Australian Dollars each (US$ 230) according to sources.
“Eight Pakistan players, [including] former captain Shahid Afridi and opener Ahmed Shehzad, were fined AU$ 300 (US$ 230) after they came late to their Sydney hotel on Sunday,” sources in the Pakistan team told AFP on condition of anonymity. The team management, headed by manager Naveed Cheema, claimed the players arrived 45 minutes late after a night out.
"These players went with their friends for dinner but came back late," said a team source. The players are understood to have apologized and have promised not to repeat the offense.
Pakistan are placed in Group B of the 14-team World Cup and play their first group game against the current World Champions India in Adelaide on Sunday.
