England add Moeen Ali to their squad for the 2nd Test

Moeen Ali picked 19 wickets in the series against India last year

As expected, off-spinning all-rounder Moeen Ali has been added to the English squad for the 2nd Test against West Indies. Moeen is expected to join his teammates soon who are sitting in a pretty comfortable situation in the 1st Test.

After suffering from a side strain during the recently concluded World Cup, he was not considered for the tour. But he was assessed by the ECB medical team after he played a County championship game for Worcestershire and since he bowled without any discomfort he has been picked to join the rest of the squad ahead of the 2nd Test.

This could also mean that the leg-spinner Adil Rashid would be making way for him by returning back to England early to play in the County championship. Moeen’s rise as England’s lead spinner in Test Cricket came when he troubled the Indian batsmen in the home series last year when he ended up with 19 wickets.

James Tredwell bowled well and picked up 4 wickets in the 1st innings of the ongoing 1st Test, so it will be interesting to see if Moeen can actually go on to replace him in the playing XI.
