England v India 2014: England announce T20 squad; Eoin Morgan to lead as Ravi Bopara makes a comeback

Ravi Bopara

England selectors have recalled Ravi Bopara for the one-off Twenty20 (T20) against India, which starts on September 7, after leaving him out of the One Day International (ODI) squad for the ongoing bilateral series. Joining Bopara in the comeback list are fast bowler Tim Bresnan and diminutive top order batsman James Taylor.

Jason Roy is the only fresh face in the 14-member squad captained by Eoin Morgan in the absence of regular T20 skipper Stuart Broad, who will go under the knife this week to recover from knee issues that have been troubling him for the past one year.

Surrey batsman Roy is the leading run-getter in the recently concluded Natwest T20 Blast: 677 runs at an average of 48.35. With former England stars Michael Vaughan and Graeme Swann calling for an aggressive approach in limited overs cricket, the 24-year-old, who has a strike-rate of 157.07 in the tournament, may just prove to be the right addition.

"This one-off NatWest International T20 provides us with an opportunity to look at players who have impressed recently in domestic cricket and gives them a chance to test themselves on the international stage against high-quality opposition. I would like to wish Eoin Morgan and his squad all the very best against a strong Indian side," national selector James Whitaker was quoted as saying.

Luke Wright and Ian Bell are the notable omissions from the squad that includes Moeen Ali and Steven Finn.

England squad for T20s: Eoin Morgan (capt), Moeen Ali, Ravi Bopara, Tim Bresnan, Jos Buttler, Steven Finn, Harry Gurney, Alex Hales, Chris Jordan, Joe Root, Jason Roy, James Taylor, James Tredwell, Chris Woakes
