According to the reports in the Australian media, England players enjoyed their third consecutive Ashes triumph by urinating on The Oval pitch in what turned out be an embarrassing display after a thrilling finale.

Almost four hours after England confirmed their 3-0 series triumph, players decided to take their post-match party from dressing rooms to the centre of the field.

England’s unusual act occurred in the presence of cleaning staff and other ground-staff.

A number of players including Stuart Broad, Kevin Pietersen and James Anderson are said to be involved in the act, Sydney Morning Herald reported.

Matt Prior posted this image on his Twitter account, which showed the England players celebrating on the ground later in the evening:

Earlier, England skipper Alastair Cook said he expects his team would be given a ‘respectful’ reception by Australian fans when they tour Down Under in November this year.

The Australian coach Darren Lehmann asked Australian fans to send Stuart Broad home crying which subsequently earned him a fine.

But Cook insisted that England would be well received by Australian supporters.

“I think they were pretty respectful. The last time we went there I thought the atmosphere was fantastic,” he said.

“When we have played well they have treated us with respect and I don’t think it will be any different.”

Cook said Australia’s off-field antics will not affect his side as they now plan for a first Test in Brisbane three months down the line.

“It’s water off a duck’s back,” Cook said.

“You can say what you want. The guys in the other side are entitled to their opinion. What is important to us is how we go about things and how we perform.”

England and Australia threw verbal volleys at each other all series but tensions escalated especially in the fifth Test.

When asked whether England had sledged Australia more in this series compared to the prior tours, Cook didn’t deny that was the case but maintained that things remained in control most of the times.

“It’s been an interesting series in that way,” he said.

“It’s been played in the right spirit. It’s been hard, tough cricket and no side has been prepared to give an inch. Maybe because it’s so recent you forget what happened in 2011, 2009 and 2007.”
