England's Craig Kieswetter announces his retirement
England and Somerset wicket-keeper batsman Craig Kieswetter has announced his retirement from cricket with an immediate effect because of an eye injury.
The South African-born cricketer has played 46 one-day internationals and 25 Twenty20 matches for England. He looked a promising player when he represented his team in the Caribbean T20 world cup for the first time.
In a statement while announcing his retirement, he said that he feels it mentally now that he cannot play any cricket.
"I feel mentally I will never again be the player that I was. I have had a terrific career, with plenty of ups and occasional downs, and I am calling time on my career and walking away with no regrets."
Kieswetter was bedridden after the accident last summer during a county match when the ball came through his helmet visor. The 27-year-old player has scored 1028 runs in ODI with an average of 30.11 including one century and five half-centuries.
